Twin Cities School Board Seats Decided

By: KBTX Staff

Despite not winning a majority of the votes, Pat Shields was voted in Saturday night as a new member of the Bryan school board.

Shields emerged victorious for the Place 2 seat with 47 percent of the votes. Unlike other elections, Bryan school board races do not require a majority to win. Shields is a political newcomer.

Incumbent Dora DeJesus finished second with 34 percent of the votes, while P.J. Vargas Jr. came in third with 19 percent. Vargas Jr. took over the Place 2 seat when Tommy Ramirez moved, but a year ago, DeJesus defeated Vargas for the spot.

Also in Bryan, incumbent David Stasny will return to his Place 6 seat after a convincing win over three opponents. Stasny won with 72 percent of the vote. G. Dale Ison finished a distant second with 17 percent. Clyde Garland and Dan Graalum finished third and fourth respectively.

"I'm more excited now than I've ever been about the staff we have on board," Stasny said Saturday night. "The progress we're making and I'm just real optimistic about Bryan schools."

Steve Aldrich is returning to College Station ISD's school board after a comfortable win over Matthew Collins. Aldrich garnered 77 percent of the vote. He will now serve a fourth consecutive term on the board.
