Gas Leak Closes Part of Texas Avenue

By: KBTX Staff

Traffic came to a standstill Wednesday after part of Texas Avenue closed due to a gas leak.

It happened just after 11 a.m. when a construction crew hit a natural gas line with a backhoe.

Officials closed Texas Avenue between Southwest Parkway and Krenek Tap Road as a safety precaution.

A total of eight fire department apparatus staffed by twenty three personnel responded.
Thirteen police department personnel also responded.

No one was evacuated, but area residents and businesses were asked to stay indoors.

The gas company quickly fixed the leak by clamping the line and Texas Avenue was opened to traffic immediately afterward.
