A Houston man will not go to prison after a family dispute turned deadly in Washington County.
Jessie Waller, 47, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 10 years probation.
Waller shot and killed his brother-in-law, Jordan Gans, Jr. at a family birthday party in August 2006.
According to investigators, Gans was intoxicated and had gotten into several fights at the party, including with Waller's elderly mother. Gans came at Waller with a knife, according to authorities.
Waller said he fired a shot to scare Gans, but instead, hit him in the chest. Even after being shot, Gans came after Waller and cut him with a knife.
Gans later died at an area hospital.
