An attempt to make some easy money earns a Bryan resident some hard time. David Wade, 44, was sentenced Friday to three years in prison for his involvement in a Nigerian check scam.

Authorities arrested Wade in November while he was trying to cash an $11,000 check at Mr. Payroll in College Station. After further investigation, they determined Wade was part of an international, internet scam to cash fraudulent checks here, then return a portion of the proceeds.

Wade admitted to police he felt apprehensive about the deal, but said he needed the money.
