Sanchez Urges High Morals

By: Associated Press

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Maintain high moral standards and treat people with respect -- that's the message Lieutenant General Ricardo Sanchez urged today to Texas A&M graduates who are entering the military.

Sanchez was commander of the V Corps and was previously the senior US commander in Iraq. He was faulted by some for leadership failures in the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal but was cleared by the Army last month. Sanchez told graduates that soldiers sometimes have to be reminded of their moral obligations.

Sanchez is a native of the Rio Grande Valley and is a graduate of what is now the Kingsville campus of Texas A&M.

The ceremony was conducted for 74 Texas A&M graduates being commissioned as officers in the armed forces.
