No Evidence in Sign Stealing Case

By: KBTX Staff

College Station police have ended their investigation into alleged campaign sign stealing involving the city council race between Ron Gay and then-incumbent Robert Wareing.

Police and County Attorney Jim Kuboviak say there was no evidence found that any signs were stolen.

Campaign volunteers for Gay filed a police report last Saturday claiming they saw Wareing, Arts Council leader P. David Romei and others in a caravan. According to a police report filed, one person in the caravan was seen placing a Ron Gay sign in his pick-up. The volunteer says the sign was put back after he yelled at the individual.

Kuboviak says without witnesses to the actual sign stealing, the case is over unless other information is presented.
