Family Vacation Planning Tips

If planning your family vacation has turned into one big headache, there is still hope and time to arrange that perfect get-away.

" The tour companies really, really want families to travel so they're making it affordable, they're making it fun," said Kaye Villasana with A&M Travel Services. She's been planning vacations for her own family and others for years. She says cruises are the way to go.

" When you look at the price, it includes everything. It's your accommodations, it's your meals, your entertainment, your travel for 5,7, however many days," said Villasana.

Philip Beard has been on several cruises and says once it's booked, he doesn't worry about much else.

" You pretty much know what your costs are going to be before you ever leave the house. You don't have to worry about what gas prices are going to be and what restaurant prices are going to be," said Beard.

Villasana says cruises also offer plenty of activities for the whole family. But if a cruise doesn't float your boat, travel agents also suggest sightseeing in a major city. Once you decide where you want to go, you should do the research.

" Go to a bookstore and buy a book on that city. It tells you hotels, places to eat, activities, and when you can save the most money," said Villasana.

Another thing to consider when booking a vacation is travelers insurance. That way you'll be covered should disaster strike and you need a refund or to reschedule.

" Most of the insurances now even cover if you have an accident while you're there and your medical expenses. If you and your family have to be sent home because of some problem, it covers that also," said Villasana.

Travel agents also warn to beware of deals that sound too good to be true. They suggest checking with the Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau to prevent being caught up in a scam.
