Judy Barton's husband died in the late 90's and left money to help the shelter build a new facility. According to information received by the shelter's attorney, Ms. Barton feels the money is not going to good use and should be returned.
The Shelter's executive director, Kelley Durham, says no one wants to build a new shelter more than they do, and litigation will only direct resources away from a new shelter.
Sir Derrick Barton was a professor at Texas A&M and was one of the original community members involved in discussing a new shelter. His wisow, Ms. Barton now lives in North Carolina.
