Brazos Valley Burn Bans: The following counties are under a Burn Ban: Austin, Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Houston, Lee, Leon, Madison, Milam, Robertson, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker, Washington
WASHINGTON -- The Justice Department Tuesday will monitor primary election voting in Brazos, Fort Bend, Galveston and Waller counties.
The feds want to make sure local officials obey laws banning discrimination at polling places.
Brazos, Fort Bend and Galveston Counties are required to provide ballots and other material in Spanish and in English.
Under the federal Voting Rights Act, the Justice Department can send observers to monitor polling in 16 states with a history of discrimination.
Last year DOJ settled six lawsuits that charged Texas cities, counties and school districts had violated the rights of Spanish-speaking residents by producing misleading translated materials.
Another complaint was not having enough Spanish-speaking election workers.
