PENSACOLA BEACH, Fla. -- There's one bit of good news for Gulf Coast residents bracing for their latest rendezvous with tropical weather: Tropical Storm Arlene has weakened slightly.
But it's still bringing heavy rain and pounding surf to some of the same areas hit hard by Hurricane Ivan nine months ago.
Arlene's top sustained winds have dropped to 60 mph. That's down from 70 mph earlier in the day.
Still, the National Hurricane Center is keeping its hurricane warning posted for 125 miles of coast from Pascagoula, Mississippi, to Destin in the western Florida Panhandle.
At 2 PM Eastern time, Tropical Storm Arlene was centered just 20 miles south-southeast of Gulf Shores, Alabama, moving north at 14 mph.
