Corpus Teen's Parents Approve Chemo

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- The parents of a young Texas cancer patient are dropping their objections to radiation treatments for the child -- after new tests show the girl's cancer is no longer in remission.

Katie Wernecke's parents have insisted that previous rounds of chemotherapy killed her cancer -- and that radiation treatments would only harm their healthy daughter. They lost custody of Katie last week after doctors said lack of treatment could be life-threatening.

Katie was diagnosed in January with Hodgkin's Disease, a type of
cancer involving the lymph nodes. The parents' attorney says the new test result "changes everything." A judge has ordered the therapy to begin as soon as possible.

Katie -- who turns 13 today -- will remain in state custody as her therapy gets under way.
