Husband Who Allegedly Killed Wife Near Hilltop Lakes Dies From Gunshot

Updated: Fri 4:43 AM, Jul 20, 2012

Leon County authorities now say both the husband and wife found shot near Hilltop Lakes Wednesday are dead. The husband reportedly died Wednesday night after what investigators believe was a murder-suicide.

Authorities believe the couple was suffering from serious medical issues, and that the C.W. Guiles shot and killed his wife, Patricia, before shooting himself. Their home is near the intersection of FM 977 and FM 3 northwest of the Hilltop Lakes community.

C.W. Guiles died at a hospital after being taken from his home by helicopter, according to the Leon County Sheriff's Office.

The couple's children found their parents shot late Wednesday afternoon. The Patricia Guiles died at the scene. Both were in their 80s, authorities said.

"Evidently, there were medical problems, and they both appeared as though they were tired of living. It looked like he shot her, and then attempted to take his own life,” said Sheriff Jerry Wakefield told News 3 Wednesday night.
