For nearly 50 years the Brazos Valley Rehab Center has been serving those in need of therapy. Now the center needs the community's help to raise money to continue its services.
"The Brazos Valley Rehabilitation Center is the area's only comprehensive out patient rehabilitation center. We provide physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and social services to children and adults of all ages," said Cheryl Allen, director of the center.
Allen also says it offers a unique experience for all patients and their families. The center has all types of certified therapists and has helped many people achieve their goals of overcoming physical as well as mental disabilities.
"All the therapists are able to collaborate together and formulate that plan of care and really work closer with families, work closer with the physician and implement that strategy," said Greg Burtin, a physical therapist.
Another unique aspect of the center is that it doesn't turn anyone away, even if patients are uninsured or unable to pay.
"That's why we have our charitable services program. Through that we actively fund raise through out the year and raise money to help people who need to access our services," said Allen.
The Brazos Valley Rehab Center tries to raise at least $60,000 annually and says Brazos Valley residents help out tremendously.
A big fund raising event for the center is coming up right here on News 3. The Celebration of Life Telethon will be held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 10 p.m. newscasts.
