First of all, thanks for the pictures everybody! We encourage you to keep sending them in. I'm just looking at the current temperature and at 55 degrees and sunny skies, you just would never have guessed it snowed this morning. Several reports of accumulations around the area. Those include: Centerville, Bremond, Franklin, Hearne, Hilltop Lakes and many others. All the snow is just a distant memory now and will probably be the last bout of winter weather for this year...though remember the snow/sleet last Easter? Never say never.

Whew! The line mentioned in our official forecast reads "The snow ended as quickly as it began!" -- that pretty much sums it up. As a matter of fact, if you weren't up that early this morning, then you're probably wondering what's going on, considering the mostly sunny skies that quickly replaced the snow.

Despite the end to the precipitation, the winds will remain gusty over the next couple of hours. A Wind Advisory remains in effect for portions of the Brazos Valley through 6:00 p.m.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Bryan/College Station through 10:00 a.m., however, the precipitation has ended across the Brazos Valley and any snow accumulations have completely melted with a little heating. I wouldn't be surprised to see the advisory discontinued before 10 a.m.

A band of moderate snow now moving into the Brazos Valley. Reports of some slick spots in northern Brazos County now coming into the studio. Looking outside, the snow is light to moderate. Snow accumulations have been little to none across the area. As of now, a Snow Advisory is in effect just to our north, but may be extended southward. Still waiting on word from the National Weather Service. The snow should exit the region by around 9 am this morning.

A good batch of precipitation is currently pushing across the northern counties -- Milam, Burleson, and Robertson. Some of this is falling as sleet and snow. A Snow Advisory may be issued for Leon, Milam, and Robertson counties if snow or sleet continues to fall in the northern portions of the Brazos Valley.

Here are the latest images from your Pinpoint Local Forecast, which paints a slightly different picture than the previous forecast. This data, which has just come in, continues to paint precipitation across the Brazos Valley, with snow flurries as far south as Hearne.

An updated temperature map is also now available, and while temperatures are still forecast to remain above freezing, they are a few degrees colder than the previous forecast.

This temperature forecast is very important -- as long as surface temperatures stay above freezing (32 degrees), any kind of precipitation that does develop, whether rain, sleet, or snow, won't freeze when it reaches the ground, which won't lead to wintry travel problems.

Here's the latest data from our Pinpoint Local Forecast model. This is a forecast image for 6:00 a.m., Friday morning, which shows some light rain over the Brazos Valley, with a little snow (the blue color) in Central Texas. This forecast image is likely showing the event as it will happen with only light rain in the Brazos Valley. With colder temperatures aloft, however, we still won't rule out a chance for a few light flurries Friday morning.

This next image, also from our Pinpoint Local Forecast is showing temperatures for the same time period. I think it will get a little cooler in some spots than what this map shows, but temperatures will likely stay above freezing which is why anything that may develop in the frozen form won't stick when it reaches the ground. This also means no travel problems are expected across the Brazos Valley.

There is still a chance that we will see more light precipitation Friday morning through noon. Temperatures at the surface will not drop below freezing so we're not expecting any travel problems, however, it will be cold enough aloft to support a slight chance for light snow mixed with light rain Friday morning, from Bryan/College Station-to-Hearne-to-Madisonville and points north and east.

This update will focus on the threat for severe weather. A winter weather update will follow shortly.

Thunderstorms will continue to push across the region bringing heavy rain to much of the Brazos Valley. A Tornado Watch remains in effect for Austin and Waller counties through 6 p.m. The threat for tornadic storms should remain southeast of the Brazos Valley, however, we will continue to watch for any significant storms over the next few hours.

There will be a threat for large hail across all of the Brazos Valley through the evening hours, which is a threat we will also continue to watch closely.

3:08 PM | Thurs, Mar 6
Some of the storms south of I 10 are starting to strengthen a bit. A few severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect and a Tornado warning was issued for locations east of Victoria. These storms have been weakening as they push northward, but we will continue to monitor the southern portions of the viewing area over the next few hours.

Concerning the threat for wintry weather -- there is a slight chance that any rain that develops Friday morning may also be mixed with light snow in the northern portions of the Brazos Valley. The chance for wintry precip is very small for mainly Robertson, Leon, and Houston counties.

Continue to keep up to date with KBTX Media for any further developments.

Showers and thunderstorms are developing in the southern portions of Texas and pushing northeastward. Most of us will see rain at some point Thursday and severe thunderstorms will be possible in the southern portions of the region through the evening hours.
