Juneteenth Celebrations

Juneteenth celebrations started bright and early in College Station.

First a freedom walk started at 9 a.m. at the Lincoln Center. Dozens of kids gathered and walked for over a mile to the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum.

Once they arrived at the museum, they enjoyed a performance called "Freedom's Legacy: Africa's gifts.”

A storyteller used monologues and musical instruments to reflect on historical events and African American culture. The children say they loved the interactive performance and even learned a few new African words.

But the fun isn't over. There will also be a family carnival held tomorrow evening at the Lincoln Center from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
