TAMUS Backs Governor's Plan

By: Lindsay Liepman

The Texas A&M System is on board with the governor's student regent plan.

By December, Chancellor Bob McTeer will present his top picks for who should sit in the student regent's seat.

And in February Governor Rick Perry will appoint a representative.

Governor Perry signed the bill Thursday that requires each Texas public university to have a nonvoting student regent.

The action came after lobbying by University of Texas students who felt the boards need more student input.

Giving a student regent voting rights would have required amending the constitution.
