No Toxic Spill in Train Accident

A train derailment in a remote area of Burleson County could have been much worse. That's because one of the cars was carrying sulfuric acid. But authorities say, thankfully, no leaks have been found.

The train reportedly jumped the tracks shortly before six tonight near FM 1361, about 4 miles east of Somerville. The location of the wreck made access difficult for emergency responders.

"It's a good distance off any improved trails or roads so we're having to go in by foot and on four-wheelers," said Burleson County Sheriff Dale Stroud. "We have personnel down there now.

Stroud says the locomotive was pulling about a dozen cars. He says they were ready with an evacuation order had there been any leaks. A heavy equipment removal team is conducting the cleanup.
