Boy Killed After Thrown From Bed Of Pick-Up

Updated: Sun 10:49 PM, Jul 03, 2005

Another tragic accident on a Brazos Valley roadway this holiday weekend. This one happened in Leon County around noon Sunday when an 8-year-old boy was thrown from the bed of a pick-up truck.
Investigators say the truck had 7 people riding in the bed and blew a tire 4 miles South of Oakwood on US 79. The driver lost control and hit a guardrail, throwing out the boy. He was taken to Palestine Regional Hospital where he later died.
DPS says the victim and everyone else in the pick-up were from Mission, Texas and were apparently visiting family here.
It is illegal for people under the age of 18 to ride in the bed of a pick-up, under most circumstances. DPS says the 7 people riding in the bed ranged in age from 2 to 20.
Saturday morning, a 20 year old man was killed when he lost control in a curve near Madisonville.
