Abduction Hoax Ties Up Police

What started out as a prank, didn't end as a joke for the Bryan Police Department. For the past week, the community believed a child abductor was on the loose.

Last Wednesday, three grade schoolers told friends and police that one of them had been abducted. Just like any other 911 call, police took it seriously.

"Eleven officers out there, the supervisor, the canine team was called out, the detective team was called out, I responded to the scene. We all began a grid search through the woods trying to find this alleged abductor, said Ty Morrow, Bryan's Police Chief.

Police say if an actual emergency had happened during that time, their response would have been slower than normal, since all available officers were on the scene.
