Katrina Gains Strength, Death Toll Rises

By: Associated Press

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The death toll from Hurricane Katrina has risen to seven.

Authorities in Florida say two boaters have died in Miami. One died from injuries suffered while the storm buffeted his boat while the other died when his boat capsized.

Earlier, officials announced the body of a man was found floating in Florida City and four people had been killed in Broward County.

Meanwhile, there's good news concerning a family of five that had been missing at sea. The Coast Guard says the couple and their three children have been rescued near Everglades City.

Katrina remains a powerful Category 2 storm in the Gulf of Mexico with 100-mile-per-hour winds. Forecasters say it could move up to Category 3 by tomorrow.
