Hurricane Emily Passing Jamaica's South

MEXICO CITY -- Authorities in Mexico are recommending tourists leave much of Mexico's Caribbean coast as a precaution. This as Hurricane Emily barrels across the Caribbean south of Jamaica.

Mexican officials have issued a hurricane warning for much of the eastern Yucatan peninsula, including Cancun. Residents in South Texas, meanwhile, are gathering supplies and making other preparations in case the storm hits the state.

The Category Four storm has winds of 145 miles-per-hour. The hurricane center in Miami says Emily is expected to pass near Grand Cayman Island tomorrow.

Hurricane specialists say if the storm stays on track, it's likely to strike land in the eastern Yucatan tomorrow night, lose some strength as it moves over land, then regain its dangerous energy in warm waters over the Gulf of Mexico. They say Emily is likely to make landfall again sometime Wednesday, anywhere from northeastern Mexico to southern Texas.
