Bryan's school district decided to start small when it came to tackling all of its school improvement projects.
Interior upgrades are currently being done at Fanning, Johnson, and Crockett Elementary Schools, including painting, and floor and ceiling work. Crockett Elementary will also be getting a new gym floor.
"Crockett will now be able to use their gym floor. Before it was buckling so bad due to termites and water penetration that it was actually becoming somewhat of a safety hazard," says B.I.S.D. Construction Director Rachel Henderson.
Henderson oversees all of the district's big projects. Slated for next summer are the second high school, a fourth middle school, and a new campus for Bonham Elementary.
Still, the bond money doesn't cover all the things that need to be done. Concession stands at Viking Stadium are being updated, and the high school is getting a new roof, thanks in part to money that was set aside before the bond election.
While some construction delays are inevitable, Henderson is confident that most things will run smoothly.
"I don't think we could have asked for a better team effort,” says Henderson. “I think everything is going to get done and the school district is going to be happy as well as the community."
