Emergency services coordinators in the Twin Cities have been working around the clock to add some semblance of organization to the ever-growing number of Gulf Coast evacuees in the Brazos Valley.
With shelters set up, those same coordinators have worked up a plan where you can donate to those in need.
Starting Thursday at 8 AM, the old Social Security building in the 3900 block of East 29th Street in Bryan will be accepting non-monetary donations for those here in our area. That includes anything from toiletries and diapers to non-perishable food. Volunteers will keep the building up and running in the days to come.
The original location, the old Wal-Mart building in the Tejas Center, was not cleared by local fire officials, so the effort has been moved.
Any monetary donations to the relief effort should be directed towards the United Way and 211, according to emergency management officials.
You can click on the Hurricane Katrina banner at the top of KBTX.com's homepage to see how you can donate your time, money and/or goods to those affected by Katrina.
