Volunteers Flock to Help Katrina Victims

Video will be available shortly

The Lincoln Center is getting packed, but not just with victims of Katrina.

Volunteers have flooded shelters to aid the flooded Gulf Coast residents. In fact, Thursday alone, around 100 people signed in at the Lincoln Center to assist the Red Cross in their efforts. Still more have gone to Central Baptist to render aid there.

If you'd like to give of your time to help those in need, you can call the Red Cross, Salvation Army or the United Way to find out how.

Volunteers will also be staffing the old Social Security building in the 3900 block of East 29th Street in Bryan. There, you can donate toiletries, diapers, non-perishable food items, and any other non-monetary gifts that victims could use while in our area. The doors of the buliding will open at 8 AM Thursday.

Officials at the shelters say undergarments are becoming a big necessity, with many evacuees running out.

Monetary donations can be made through the United Way.
