One last round of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms is possible in the Brazos Valley through midnight. A few storms could be strong to severe, with damaging winds & hail being a concern. An isolated, brief tornado threat cannot be ruled out. Highest potential for severe weather is over the Northeastern Corner of the Brazos Valley.
Violence continues to escalate in the New Orleans area. Texas Task Force One temporarily halted rescues because of the civil unrest, but late Thursday they were able to execute two rescue missions.
Along with FEMA rescuers, Texas Task Force One helped bring 64 elderly patients stuck in a nursing home in New Orleans to safety. The teams also saved 90 patients from a flooded hospital.
The urban search and rescue team and the swift water rescue team have already been involved in more than 15 hundred rescues. Officials say all members are safe and none were involved in the incidents of civil unrest.
Texas Task Force One will rest Thursday night and begin work again first thing Friday morning.
