Brazos County Approves Budget

Brazos County Commissioners approved the county's budget and set the tax rate Tuesday.

After some amendments, the over $95 million budget passed unanimously. A 46.5 cent tax rate was approved as well.

All of Sheriff Chris Kirk's requests for pay raises for his department were approved. Now sheriff's deputies are within five percent of the salary of their city counterparts.

"I think it sends a clear message for everyone that works in the Sheriff's office that commissioners court understands the disparity wasn't fair and they stepped up to fix the problem and we're very grateful for that," said Sheriff Kirk.

Sheriff's department employees won't be the only one to see more money in their paychecks. All full time county employees received a four percent raise.
