Accused Mental Health Patient Committed

By: KBTX Staff

An 18 year old accused of attacking an elderly Bryan woman is incompetent to stand trial.
That's according to a court-appointed mental health expert.

On Wednesday, visiting Judge John Delaney committed Philip Hampton to Vernon State Hospital, which is a maximum security psychiatric hospital.

Hampton will return to Brazos County in about 120 days where his future will be determined.

Hampton is accused of leaving a MHMR facility in Bryan and stabbing 69 year old Carolyn Miller back in June.

His attorney says he has the mental capacity of a 7 year old.
