State officials have planned a scheduled return for motorists to the Houston area beginning Sunday.

Houston Solution: Returning Home


Day 1, Sunday, Sept. 25
Residents west of I-45 and north of I-10, including those residing in Tomball, The Woodlands, Waller, Hockley, Katy, Brookshire and surrounding communities.

Day 2, Monday, Sept. 26
Residents south of I-10 and west of I-45 south., including those residing in Richmond, Stafford, Rosenberg, Sugarland, Pearland and surrounding communities, including all Houston residents who reside inside of I-610.

Day 3, Tuesday, Sept. 27
Residents in all remaining areas east of I-45 and north of I- 10 extending to Liberty and Chambers counties.

A return plan for residents of communities in storm-impacted areas is pending further damage assessment.

These counties include: Galveston, Angelina, Polk, San Jacinto, Liberty, Chambers, Galveston, Jefferson, Orange, Tyler, Hardin, Jasper, and Newton.

Traffic and fuel availability are still issues.

Residents are asked to please adhere to this return schedule to help ease traffic and allow emergency and clean-up personnel time to get into the area first.

Traffice update as of 5:30pm, Saturday:

Washington Co.: Traffic is slow but moving steady on SH 36 & US 290. Traffic is backed up through town (Brenham) on BS 36 heading to the loop.

Grimes Co.: SH 6 from the Navasota river to SH 105 is backed up bumper to bumper and moving very slow 1 MPH. They are backing up trying to get off SH 6 to head east on SH 105. SH 6 from SH 105E to the Waller co. line is flowing @ 60 to 65mph.

Freestone Co.: Traffic average speed 45 to 50 mph on FM 488 due to Corsicana detouring from IH 45. Other than that everything else is running smooth (Including I 45).

Walker Co.: I45 moving about 50 mph except at SH 19 entrance ramp (clearing accident), flowing good south of that location.
Roads clear of trees in Co. SH 30 flowing.

Madison Co.: I45 moving about 50 mph. SH 21/US190 flowing well.

Brazos County
SH 6 moving 50 to 60 mph.

Burleson County
SH 36/SH 21 traffic signal is backed up six miles toward Milano.

Milam County
SH 36, US 77 and US 79-traffic is heavy on all these roadways but it is moving.

Robertson County
SH 6-average speed 30mph.
US 79 is heavy but moving.

Leon County
Okay for now.
