The future of a racetrack in Edge is something a lot of people are keeping tabs on. Now, there may be a new twist to the story.

Racetrack developer Barret Lyne says the land originally designated for the track, is for sale.

Lyne says he still wants to use his acres for a wildlife refuge, with a racetrack in the middle to help sustain the green space.

However, because of a possible legal battle with some Edge homeowners who don't want the track, Lyne says he's considering selling the land.

Although he says he doesn't want the land to be split up into housing lots, if sold, the future of the land would be out of Lyne's control.

"If that did develop and that was an outcome, I would no longer have any control over it. I would take that money and go somewhere else where there are less people and neighbors are further away, and try to do the environmental thing again," said Lyne.

Some Edge residents have hired an attorney to fight the alcohol permit Lyne was recently granted for the track.

The environmental thing O.K. if he thinks a racetrack is friendly to the environment, he is mental. Besides that land was for sale a long time before the track was even thought of, so don,t let this crooked snake fool you people its all about money. Some of us people come about our assets the old fashion way, with hard work not Barret, he likes the easy way, well call them crooks.

well randall, pay attention mon thru fri, Idiot !!!!!

Booze is not the only issue with this. We all HEARD hot rod hill. I lived 15 miles away and still heard it!! People have to put a stop to the racetrack at the beginning and that is: getting the alchohol permit. The building of this track would only lead to more problems in the future!!! The residents don't want the track. They choose to live in this area WITHOUT a racetrack next door. Take your cars and go to Lufkin we don't want them in Edge!!!!!!

LOL "...try to do the environmental thing..." I don't think that he could come up with enough land to offset the environmental toll that a raceway takes! Consider ALL the factors: gasoline, impervious surfaces (& other watershed issues), and noise, just to name the obvious.

You know, the ultimate irony here would be if Lynn sold the area to a developer and all the newcomer homeowners took over the home owners association and banned all those stinky cattle and noisy tractors, effectively running the current residents out of town...plus, of course the increased traffic; have any of you folks seen what has happened to Welborne Road to Millican since all those new developments have come in?

Posted by: ashley Location: college station on Apr 15, 2008 at 10:59 AM
there's already enough traffic with the a&m games. putting a race track in would cause more problems. we dont need to spread our drunks out more then they already are

Posted by: Carabelle Location: Brazos County on Apr 14, 2008 at 10:45 PM
This maybe this guys land but just like the people in College Station they didn't want the Wal-Mart put in and it was axed, I'm sure someone owned that land as well. We're not College Station but we have a right to fight against a structure we don't want as well as extra traffic and BOOZE. So for all of you wanting this track donate your land and have yourselves a ball. Allen is willing to donate his parcel if the city will let him. For the people talking about convenient stores being put in and selling beer etc. That's one car at a time not a whole speedway full.

Posted by: george Location: bry on Apr 14, 2008 at 05:55 PM
Randall, maybe you should spend more time studying in school than racing. It would be less "expinsive".

Posted by: Anonymous Location: tabor on Apr 14, 2008 at 05:13 PM
I dont think it should be sold. So do tell me why it's okay to build a subdivision there with the possiblity of unwanted people but it's not okay to build a race track. It's never been about the alcohol. It's all about the type of business he wants to build. There is nothing wrong with a racetrack. At least my kids will have a place to go and not run the streets. I've lived in the Kurten/Edge area most of my life and most of those people out there would do the same thing if they had the money to do so. They would make a profit just like any other normal person so let it go. You all think cause Hot Rod Hill got closed down because of all the complaining that you make enough noise and it will happen again. I know how to drive so I will take my money out of town to spend it there. Grow up people and except changes in your area.

im sorry "cjk" but mr.lyne did not own HOT ROD HILL wyane brown did..so i dont care where he puts the track ..just let him build it

Posted by: Randall Location: bryan.tx on Apr 14, 2008 at 04:22 PM
i say let the man build the track..because it gets old driving to lufkin every weekend just so i can race my j.r mini stock and it gets very expinsive...so i say let him build the track..and for get the people that dont want him to..

First let me say that I have no problem with a race track, but it does matter where that race track is located. Would, Randy, who posted before me want the track in the middle of his neighborhood in College Station? Probably not. It just needs to be somewhere else, like out on HWY 21 - not on a narrow, dark road that will not accommodate a large volume of traffic and not in the middle of people who live out of town in good part for the peace and quiet. It also wouldn't be much of a wildlife preserve with all of the noise and traffic, not to mention how many of those "wildlife" would be run over. No one begrudges Mr. Lyne his racetrack, just wish he would put it in a different location more condusive to that sort of enterprise. As I recall he got tons of complaints about his former track called Hot Rod Hill.

Putting all issues about the race track, Edge, and Mr. Lyne aside--Could someone please fill me in on how Ms. Snelling came into this situation. Last I heard she was being investigated because she lied about having documents when presented with a legal order to turn them over an attorney? Could anyone let me know the facts on this - or has it gotten overshadowed by all the mudslinging between the "adult" residents of this county?

If this man was building a store that sold alcohol, would you be contesting it? No, you would be stopping in and filling your cooler!! Let the man build the Race Track. The community is loosing thousands of dollars every week. I, know this because my 14 year old son drives a jr. mini stock, I have to drive him to Lufkin, Tx. for him to race. It cost about $250.00 to $300.00 each time we go. That is for one race car. Don't you think the community would benifet with this times about 100. It don't take a Rocket Scientist to figure this out!!! LET THE MAN BUILD HIS TRACK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Tina Snelling should be investigated and reprimended for her part and interest in this matter. smell a rat, do you?

Posted by: kim Location: college station on Apr 14, 2008 at 01:53 PM
i have only 4 words to say - it is HIS land

Another Barret Lyne ploy! He pulled this stunt some years back when he was in bankruptcy. He is simply collecting offers from purchasers to establish value of the land that he can then take to the bank to claim value of the property in an attempt to seek financing. Rather than paying for an appraisal, he waste prospective buyers and real estate agents / brokers time and dashes their hopes of completing a transaction. I hope I am wrong but if past performance is indicative of the future it is more Lyne shenanigans.

Posted by: Earl Location: Deanville on Apr 14, 2008 at 12:22 PM
Well if we ain't gonna have no racetrack for us rednecks to gather at, would you at least let us hunt some of them birds you been talkin about?

Posted by: Edge Resident Location: Edge on Apr 14, 2008 at 11:09 AM
OK, Where has everyone been for the last 4-6 months??? This land has been for sale for a at least this long.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Bryan on Apr 14, 2008 at 09:01 AM
I was curious and just looked up what Mr. Lyne is asking for his property. Anyone have 2.2 Mil laying around? Mr. Lyne is asking $4,995 per acre.

Posted by: Barbara Location: Bryan on Apr 14, 2008 at 08:59 AM
I have to ask a question, was this land zoned as commercial/business use? If it was, then I believe that he has the right to use the property as he sees fit. If its not zoned for commercial / business then the property owners are right.

Posted by: Larry Location: Huntsville on Apr 14, 2008 at 08:29 AM
I think that the land owner has the right to utilize his/her land as he/she sees fit. If neighbors are so opposed to the planned use, then they should purchase the land from the land owner.

Posted by: Edge Resident Location: EDGE on Apr 14, 2008 at 08:22 AM
Realtor signs were posted around Christmas - as soon as he heard there was opposition to the race track. Whether he actually plans on selling or not is a whole other story! There have been "For Sale" signs on the property before - and guess what? He still owns it! He is playing mind games folks.

Posted by: RC Location: Bryan on Apr 14, 2008 at 08:10 AM
Let the man build the racetrack. If the main concern is "drunk drivers in the country", trust me, you've got that already. At least it would be regulated at the race track, unlike the backwood redneck pasture parties that take place now. This is getting as petty as the self righteous people in Bryan complaining about Hooters. Start complaining and taking action against the REAL problems in this area, an anti-illegal immigrant protest would be far more beneficial with your precious time.

Posted by: Michael Location: College Station on Apr 14, 2008 at 07:56 AM
Although I would love to see a race track again in Brazos County, it is his land. If he wants to sell it, why not?

Posted by: Fred Location: Bryan on Apr 14, 2008 at 05:55 AM
I believe that Mr. Lyne's statement of using the land as a wildlife refuge is an appeal for public support. I believe his only motive is financial gain from the racetrack. Does Mr. Lyne really believe the traffic from racegoers entering the land will be beneficial to wildlife? Not to mention the effect the noise will have.

Posted by: d.j Location: bryan on Apr 14, 2008 at 05:39 AM
Ok if the land is yours do what you feel you have to do because if it where any of the other people that had the same chance or even in your shoes do think that they would even care .I THINK NOT it's yours to do what you want sell the land and take the money and have fun if a racetrack gets built oh well i hope some one buys the land and builds a gentalmens club their then they will have something to say
