Sixty-two-year-old Rosemary Vollmar is one feisty grandma. She's had to be. She has fought off an attacker in her home in downtown Bryan not once, but twice.

The first time she had just returned home from a late night at work when she was startled by an intruder.

"The door opened and a man walked in and I yelled in a deep voice, ‘get out of my house, get out of my house,’ and he stepped in instead of out and I knew I was in trouble," Vollmar.

But Vollmar's attacker got more than he bargained for when she began to fight back.

"He grabbed me and we went backwards and he ripped my blouse open and ripped my bra, scratched my chest, and I'm still fighting," said Vollmar.

Vollmar's attacker gave up and ran away, but she says he came back five days later, this time in broad daylight.

"When I opened the door there the man was and he pushed into the house. He ripped my clothes and knocked me down. I'm scraped and bruised and hitting him," said Vollmar.

Vollmar says her attacker never said a word as she looked right into his eyes and screamed for help. She was able to break free and run outside for help, and her attacker ran off again.

Vollmar wasn't seriously hurt, but she did get a few cuts and bruises. Those will go away, what won't so quickly is the fear she lives with everyday, wondering if and when her attacker will return.

"Now the closer I get to home, the more nervous I get because I have to go in that house and I've never felt that way before. I look around everywhere, behind me, checking under the beds," said Vollmar.

The attack won't force Vollmar to move from her home.

She's a vocal community and political activist. Her mission now will be getting her attacker arrested and behind bars, making the city safe for other would-be victims of crime.

"Something is wrong. He needs to be taken off the street and get help in jail or in the hospital," said Vollmar.

Bryan police are still investigating. Again, the suspect is described as a black male in his early to mid 30s, between 5’8” and 5’10” inches tall with a goatee and very short hair. If you have any information, please call Bryan Police at 361-3888.
