The Burton city council has a vacancy to fill following the death of one of its members. Council woman Glorstine Patterson died April 11 of a heart attack at Brenham's Trinity Medical Center.

The timing of her death didn't allow enough time to place her position on the May ballot. For that reason, the person picked to replace Patterson on the city council will serve until the 2009 election.
