A murder trial in Burleson County has been called off after the sudden death of the defendant.
William Edward Lawhon of Somerville died Sunday from what-his-family-thinks was a heart attack. He was scheduled to stand trial for murder beginning Monday.
Lawhon was arrested in March of 2004 in connection with the stabbing death of Clifford Ishee Junior of Gonzales. Police say Lawhon stabbed Ishee with a pocket knife, then drove the victim to the hospital where he later died.
