Arrests Made in Murder Case, None for Murder

Two arrests have been made in the Washington County murder investigation, but none of them are for murder.

Jason Heard, 22 of Brenham, and Byron Garfield, 20 of Hempstead, were arrested for tampering with physical evidence, a third-degree felony charge. Heard also faces a charge of failing to report a felony, which is a misdemeanor. Both were arrested last week, but are out on bond.

The men allegedly removed drugs and money from the apartment where 22-year-old Alex Martin was gunned down September 30th. Also, according to police, Heard was at the scene for an extended time without reporting the shooting to authorities.

The investigation into who shot Martin continues, with Brenham PD and Crimestoppers offering rewards for information leading to an arrest. The Texas Rangers, DPS Crime Lab and the Washington County District Attorney's Office are assisting in the investigation.

If you can help in the search, you're asked to call Brenham PD at 337-1082
