NEAR MADISONVILLE - Police say a mechanical problem caused an 18-wheeler to catch on fire.

Kelli Lowery was headed south on I-45 Wednesday afternoon. She came upon billowing, black smoke, just south of Madisonville.

As Kelli passes the inferno, you can see the truck's engine is on fire.

As bad as it looks, there is some good news. The driver made it out safely after coming to a stop on the outside shoulder of the northbound lanes.

Other than the traffic back up, no other vehicles were involved.
