Unemployment has never been as big an issue in Bryan-College Station as it is in other parts of the country. In fact, B/CS routinely leads the state in lowest unemployment.

So when a job fair is held in town does anyone show up? The answer is yes, but this year's crop of job hunters weren't necessarily looking for their dream job, but rather, a way to help them make ends meet.

You've seen the numbers going up at the grocery store, and who can forget the pain at the pump. But one of the places you're not seeing big increases is your paycheck. Instead, money keeps seeming to disappear.

"They really don't pay a lot of money. You have to be doing it because you love it, not because of the money," job hunter Barbara Foley said.

But money does talk. That's why Foley came to the Chamber of Commerce's Job Fair looking for employment opportunities. She just graduated with a teaching degree, but says that alone isn't going to be enough.

"I'm going to need a second job with the price of everything going up," Foley said.

Danny Henson has lived in Dime Box for 20 years. To avoid a 60-mile commute in and out of town each day, he's considering packing up and moving closer.

"If I could find something in this area. I would be willing to move," Henson said. "I would almost have to to be able to afford driving back and forth."

Right now, Henson says he just needs a job, but he would even consider taking on two. Bottom line: he's willing to do whatever it takes to make ends meet.

"If it takes moving away to make a living, that's what you got to do," Henson said.

Told the wife a few weeks ago she needed to get a job. My wife has not worked for 10 years. I need the money to move from Bryan,do to crime and get the kids out of BISD and into good Private School. Thank God she went to college and she is a licensed nurse. and has kept up with her license. College paid off for her. I wish I had a college education now. I need the money now things have gone up like food, gas,Private School, etc. If I could get the $470per month in BISD School tax money back it would help.

Unfourtunantly the way the world works today,it seems that some ameninties r necessary, such as internet.I am a college student & we use the internet 4 so many things,so yes,I have to have it.not want, HAVE TO have it,& cell phone,I just use it instead of a land line i dont have 2 phones.I work 2 jobs & go to school,I am not home enough & a cell phone is the best way to reach me.The cost of living is going up,as is gas & prices for groceries as well,& I feel that a lot of ppl dont get paid enough to afford all of the rising costs we are having to deal with. Yes,some people need to get out of the house & get a 1st job but a big issue is that people have 1st jobs & cant afford what they need to. I dont have extras like cable, etc. & I still struggle to make what i need to just to pay for cost of living. that doesnt even include my tuition etc.The prices of everythin r ridiculous, bills & taxes 2.I put money into socialsecurity & my generation wont see a penny of that. we need 2 do somethin

I agree, some people need to get a first job and quit getting everything from the government for all these kidsm they keep having and can't support.

The generation before us did not drive expensive cars, have cable tv,cell phones and huge houses but they lived 'within their means' and were able to let mom raise the kids without dropping them into a day-care system. Dont need the 'stuff'

Now more than ever I feel the crunch of rising prices. Enough so that I am working two jobs and a home-based web business. I recommend to anyone to start looking at the homebased business to help make ends meet.

These young teachers with kids need to gone home after school and introduce themselves to the kitchen where the pots and pans are. Learn how to cook instead of running by some fast food for take out. It` expensive number 1 and not healthy. theres lots of way to cut back give yourself a raise...

Drive around certain parts of Bryan during the day and I can show you people that need to get their first job....

Ok, I am a teacher...and its not THAT bad of a salary...not bad enough to find a second job. Why don't you just cut off your tv, cell phone, internet, or some other device we previously lived comfortable without!
