Texas A&M student Jason Castro is still in the running to become the next American Idol.

The singer made it to the final five on the hit show Wednesday night despite receiving critical comments from Idol judges on Tuesday after his performance of "Memories" by Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical, Cats.

Friends gathered at Calloway House Tuesday night to watch Castro. The 20-year-old lived there last year.

Contestants Carly Smithson and Syesha Mercado were in the bottom two when the millions of votes were counted, with Smithson being voted off.

One thing is true...Ags will support Ags!!! Jason seems like a great kid, but will hit it big at a coffee house. Hope he does better, but...

What is American Idol?

Posted by: L Location: College Station on Apr 28, 2008 at 03:58 PM
The judges have stated time and time again that they are looking for something different and unique. Jason is certainly both and has a great attitude. As someone stated below, he may not win but will still have a great career.

Boring!

His last performance was not great, but he is unique and I think he has an audience for his type of music. When he signs the right songs for his voice and style he shines. I do not think he will win, but this has opened some doors for him.

susie don't compare this geek to John Travolta.John wasn' a singer but he sounded better than Jason. He was good looking, too.I think the main reason you all are voting for him is cause he is an aggie. that is adumb reason to vote for an untalented guy who can not sing or play guitar.

America isn't all about talent...look at the people making millions of dollars...shaved heads and all! haha. Go Jason!! He's hot, unique, and will definitely sell records with that immense female fan base! dont hate.

Please tell this guy to wash his hair. Please!!!

Jason may go next...not a strong voice but does well with stuff suited for him. We're hoping "Neil Diamond week" will be a plus for him. Not a fan of the dreds but definitely rootin for one of our own from the Aggie community! Come on, Jason...there's lots of laid-back songs out there with guitar that you'd ace! (He reminds us of a very young John Travolta at times) Gig'em, Jason.

I'm disappointed that Ags may be forming a voting bloc for someone less than star quality just because he's an Ag. Ags should be more discriminating about whom they support. His own demeanor, beginning when Michael Johns was voted off, showed his own disbelief. I think he knows that he isn't as good as Chikeze, Michael, Kristy and Carly are, or any of the others left standing. My bet is you'll never hear his name in the big time when this is over which is not the case with the other contestants who are serious about singing and performing.

bryan, if your gonna be a star, you will recieve critisism. I doubt you know him. He needs to clean himself up and loose that nasty hair. Sorry cant support a loser

once again---hes only in it still because i think people in the area are voting for him because he went to A&M--Who gives a crap what school he went to?!? Its suppose to be a singing contest not a popularity contest- but obviously people cant grasp the concept of american idol

Posted by: bryan on Apr 24, 2008 at 01:20 PM
ummmm....if he was such a bad singer then he would be out already! and your opion isnt needed! the least you can do is be supportive!...and if you dont know him....dont talk about him!!!

In the poll it shows win, second, and third, but no fourth. I think Jason will be fourth. I think Syesha will go next, then Jason, then David Archuleta, then Brooke, leaving David Cook to win it. Remember, it is a popularity contest. However, David Cook is clearly the best, most well-rounded vocalist and people like him too. This has been a very good and tough season. If these 5 had been divided into the past seasons, they might each have won.

I believe that the only reason that Jason is still in the contest is because he is an Aggie. Students and alumni must be voting 10 times each. The dreadlock look is certainly not the usual Aggie "look". His voice is certainly not that good. I believe that he will not go any further. I guess that time will tell.

He will "bring down the house" with the right Neil Diamond song. The previous song was not his style.

first of all, yes it should have been syeshia. second of all anonymous, his name is jason, not justin. third of all, he is actually a pretty decent singer and the results are 40% good voice, 60% popularity...(it is American IDOL). america could care less about if he is on B or B flat. and besides that, show some support for your aggie. some of you are pretty pessimistic, and this may be the only aggie to be on american idol. try to support him at least for the last couple of episodes

Posted by: yo dawg on Apr 24, 2008 at 11:21 AM
you go dawg, jason "whoopi" goldberg. here today gone tommorrow. gag`em!

Posted by: eve Location: college station on Apr 24, 2008 at 11:02 AM
are you people that vote for Jason listening to him? He is a horrible singer. He should have been out a long time ago. I was surprised about the outcome of last nights' show.

Posted by: James Location: Austin on Apr 24, 2008 at 10:12 AM
Is it just me, or is the guy's cocky "it's cool to be as high as a kite around the clock" demeanor starting to get on your last nerve? The dreadlock novelty is old hat now. Time to go....

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE AGGIE WIN. WAY TO GET 'EM BOY!!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Apr 24, 2008 at 08:31 AM
Justin is a really bad singer guys- this is a singing contest- not a popularity contest or merly cause he went to A&M--FYI for the person who said it should have been Syeshia--at least she can sing and looks decent!! She is what an Idol should look AND sound like

Posted by: Victoria Location: College Station on Apr 24, 2008 at 06:19 AM
GOOD LUCK ! AND GIG'EM!

Posted by: Anonymous on Apr 23, 2008 at 09:53 PM
