One week after the devastation in New Orleans, reality is setting in for the evacuees in the Brazos Valley. While many are looking for a job and temporary place to stay, others are making a more permanent move.

Jamelda Jeanjacques won't be going back to the city where she's lived all her life. Katrina brought her to Bryan and Bryan is where she'll stay.

"Everybody just felt hopeless when we were in New Orleans. We've made a lot of friends here. People have been helping us with our kids, literally coming out of their pockets for us. I would like to be around people like that," says Jamelda.

Jamelda and her fiancé have two young children and thanks to the generosity of one church, he was able to find a job.

Like many others, Jamelda is facing the reality her family needs to move forward. Now that she knows she will be moving to a duplex in Bryan, she needs the necessities for her new home. Donations have been pouring in fast, but going out just as quickly.

Jamelda is truly grateful for the overwhelming community support and says that's the number one reason her family will be calling Texas home.

"I love New Orleans, it's a good city but it just shows you there are other people and places when you get out that love you the same way. We want to make this our home," says Jamelda.
