WATCHES AND WARNINGS

Strope Stepping Down

After a long career in law enforcement, Bryan's police chief is readying to turn in his badge.

Mike Strope sent a letter to the city Friday afternoon announcing his retirement. When he steps down, he'll have spent three years heading up the organization.

Strope also spent half a decade at the helm of College Station's police, and was a chief in Arizona and Oklahoma.

In his letter, Strope wrote, "I have witnessed a rebirth in the pride towards the Bryan Police Department by its employees.

"Most importantly, I have witnessed members of the police department lay aside personal feelings and agendas for the overall good of the organization and community."

City officials say they'll conduct the search for a new chief internally.
