Nearly 150 evacuees staying at Reed Arena will be able to call it home for at least another week.
Texas A&M University officials initially said the facility would be shut down as a shelter Friday.
But because of the outpouring of community and university support, A&M President Dr. Robert Gates announced, Reed will remain open for another week or so.
Hundreds of students have assisted in the effort to house and assist the evacuees, along with scores of faculty and staff.
"I continue to marvel at the outpouring of compassion and support that is allowing our evacuees to transition to some sense
of normalcy, both in our community and the state," Gates said.
The next event scheduled for Reed is First Yell on September 16th.
