Leon County residents turned out by the hundreds to vote Saturday on a measure to legalize retail alcohol sales in part of the county.
The special local option election would've made retail alcohol sales legal in Justice Precinct 2.
That part of the county includes Centerville, Leona, and other areas.
In all, more than 1,100 residents turned out, and the results are in.
By a margin of 20 percentage points and more than 230 votes, the issue failed.
450 residents voted for the measure; 687 voted against.
County officials say of the more than 3,000 people eligible to vote in the election, 37 percent turned out for the election.
But the issue of retail alcohol sales isn't dead yet in Leon County.
Precinct 1 will make the same decision in a few weeks.
