A&M Unveils Bush Library Proposal

By: KBTX Staff

Texas A&M University's George W. Bush presidential library proposal is on it's way to the White House.

The 43 page proposal, made available Wednesday, details everything from the location and facility design, to educational programs, and even includes a timetable for completion.

There are three proposed sites, all of them within close proximity to the President's fathers library and museum complex.

The proposed price tag for the complex is upwards of $175 million dollars.

The proposal consists of four facilities on the A&M campus -- the library and museum, a conference center, a public policy institute, and a family retreat center. These facilities would be created, operated, and maintained with funds that come primarily from four sources: the private sector; Texas A&M University; state, county, and/or cities of College Station/Bryan; and as provided by federal statutes.

Construction would begin in April 2008, with dedication of the complex in April 2011.

Others in the running for a presidential library include the University of Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor, SMU, Midland College and the University of Dallas.
