A delegation of community leaders and business professionals from the Twin Cities are once again going to march on Capitol Hill.

In what has become an annual tradition, the Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce has assembled a diverse group to take regional questions, concerns and comments to the Texas Congressional leaders.

As in previous years, the Chamber delegation will attempt to meet with the more-than-thirty Texas members of the House of Representatives and/or their staffs. Plus, both senators from the Lone Star State will hear from B/CS leaders, as will officials at a number of federal agencies.

Some three dozen locals will begin their trip early Monday morning. Tuesday and Wednesday, those individuals will split into six groups and make their way through the congressional halls.

The teams will be armed with major talking points on a number of topics. You can read the Legislative Action Plan pamphlet each congressman, senator and staffer will receive by clicking on the icon on the right side of this page.

Unlike previous years, Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn will meet with the delegation together on Tuesday.

The man who represents Bryan and College Station in the House, Chet Edwards, will sit down with local leaders in his office Wednesday.

Are you saying you don't think one person, with good facts and figures can influence another? If that is the case, how can one professor teach so many students. The participants are broken into groups. They will discuss taxes, health care, transportation, and more. Each group has one on one time with a Senator or Congressman to discuss how legislation impacts the Brazos Valley. It is the job of an elected official to listen to the people. For you to think this trip unimportant and a waste, you must have no faith in democracy. Perhaps you should get involved in such groups to let your voice be heard.

The participants paid for their travel and lodging expenses. Sponsors have picked up the tab for most meals. Remember, these people are discussing your (community's) opinions and concerns with the decision makers. Think about what you have to gain by having a voice, rather than complaining.
