If you live in South Brazos County and are tired of well water, just wait six months. That's when a new surface water treatment plant will open.

The Wellborn Special Utility District broke ground on the plant today, which is off of Harlan Road in South Brazos County.

Currently, Bryan-College Station water comes from below ground aquifers. The new plant will provide water to 3,000 customers in Wellborn and the surrounding area.

"Mostly a rural housing area, they'll benefit both in water quality and quantity. We'll be able to enhance our fire protection in South Brazos County as well," said Stephen Cast of the Wellborn Special Utility District.

Water from Lake Limestone will be released down the Navasota River to the plant. Surface water renews more quickly, than below ground water sources.
