The Texas State Championship of the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association wrapped up this weekend at the Brazos County Expo Complex.

Cowboys and Cowgirls dressed from the old West, and shot single-action .45s at their balloon targets.

"What comes out of the blank is simply burning embers from the black powder. It only has a range of about, oh, fifteen feet is the normal range so its very spectator friendly," said Mickey Owens. Owens is the president of the Texas Mounted Shooters.

The event is timed and points are awarded at various state and regional events. Winners from this weekend will go on to the world championship in Amarillo, TX.

I do appreceate any brother in the 2nd Amendment, but I am more of a practical shooter and would encourage more people to practice practical shooting and study the true meaning of the 2nd Amendment, which is to defend Freedom!
