District results for the 2012 STAAR test contained welcome news, as scores for Grades 3-5 show Bryan ISD students near or above the state average in most areas. Scores for Grades 6-8 were also released to the district by the Texas Education Agency.
"Our elementary scores show that our students are keeping pace with this new, more rigorous state test," said Dr. Thomas Wallis, superintendent. "While our middle school results show some gaps in achievement compared to the state average, our trends, based on past performance, show that these grades will post higher achievement as the STAAR continues to be implemented," Wallis said.
"In looking at last year's TAKS results for Grades 3-8 compared to this first year of STAAR results, we are pleased to see that we are continuing to make progress," Wallis said.
The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, or STAAR, replaced the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) program beginning in spring 2012.
