With Memorial Day weekend right around the corner, Texas Parks and Wildlife is stressing boating safety; this as Texas is seeing a five-year high in fatalities.
In 2007, Texas had 52 boater fatalities.
Accidents and injuries were also up.
High gas prices are expected to keep travelers close to home, combine that with a rising number of boat registrations, and it looks to be a crowded weekend out on the water.
With 85% of fatalities resulting from not wearing a life jacket, game wardens say tragedy is easily prevented.
