Local Jeweler Uses Diamonds To Raise Money For Charity

Diamonds are a girls best friend and sometimes the wallets worst enemy. But for one College Station jeweler, diamonds are a dazzling way to raise money for a good cause.

"We're donating $2.50 per person that comes through the door to Make A Wish Foundation. They don't have to buy anything, they just come in and we make the donation on their behalf," said Jesse Montelongo, Owner, Montelongo's Fine Jewelry.

It's called Dazzle Me With Diamonds. An event that raises money for Make A Wish Foundation, an organization that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

To make the event a success, Montelongo's Fine Jewelry in College Station teamed up with sororities from Texas A&M.

"Sororities are here to help the community. They are here to assist and what better way to do that then to partner with a local business who's willing to partner up with them and help raise money for such a good cause," said Lina Lawson, event co-producer.

Dazzle Me With Diamonds began three years ago and since has raised thousands of dollars for the Make A Wish Foundation. But Jesse Montelongo says, the event is only a small part of the big picture.

"They've been diagnosed with a terminal illness and they still have a dream and for them to receive that dream is that this is all about," said Montelongo.

Everyone knows a diamond is forever and thanks to the money raised at the event, terminally ill children are one step closer to having a memory that will last forever.
