"It's a special day for me," said Taylor Hobson, Walk With Me Honoree.

"Like many other second graders, 9-year-old Taylor Hobson loves playing sports. Even though Taylor was born with spina bifida, the most common permanently disabling birth defect, nothing stops her from playing her favorite sport, basketball.

"We go outside," said Hobson.

Taylor can't run or walk, but at the Easter Seals Walk With Me fundraiser for the Brazos Valley Rehabilitation Center, more than 400 Bryan/College Station residents did the walking for her.

"It's all the people around me that make me feel happy," said Hobson.

"This event has been going on across the United States for the past five years. This is the first year in Bryan College Station and it is to help people with disabilities," said Connally Burchett, Brazos Valley Rehabilitation Center.

Taylor's goal at the rehab center is to one day be able to transfer herself in and out of her wheel chair. With the money raised from the Walk With Me event, Taylor and others in the Brazos Valley will continue to get the therapy they need.

"There are a lot of people that don't have insurance or their insurance doesn't cover therapy and we are the only rehab center in town that will provide those services," said Burchett.

"If they help me with a lot of things like this, it makes me feel special," said Hobson.

Taylor has only been going to the Brazos Valley Rehabilitation Center for two months and in that short time her upper body has gotten stronger. And with this kind of community support, she will continue to get stronger one step at a time.

"I am really excited," said Hobson.
