In an effort to acquire the remaining tracts of land needed for a new landfill, the city of College Station has filed 10 separate lawsuits of condemnation to secure 176 acres of property in Grimes County through eminent domain.

Together with Bryan, College Station has already purchased around 430 acres of the 610-acre Twin Oaks landfill site located just over the Brazos-Grimes county line. The remaining 10 parcels the city is trying to acquire range in size from 64 acres to 0.8 acres.

According to a statement released by the city of College Station, "All property at the site with clear title was purchased from willing sellers, and no property is being condemned because of an owner with clear title who is unwilling to sell."

Two meetings to discuss the condemnation are scheduled for June 30 and July 1 at the American Legion Hall in Anderson.

Only Grimes county loves trash

Posted by: Marshall Location: Anderson 2nd home on Jun 11, 2008 at 11:21 AM
LG you are correct. Failed corrupt county Governments for the last 40 years put us in this mess. Some of the Low rated schools forced people out also. We have family in the area since the late 1800's It is sick seeing all the people on welfare now. Navasota running itself into the ground also hurt the County Image. I am getting use to seeing Tv and newspapers in the Houston, Bryan and conroe area talking about the corruption, arrested police officers and how many times the schools in some parts of the county have been rated substandard. It makes the County look like welfare Trash. Now people from other Counties think we are a trash dump. Still other plan to use are familey land for a super Highway. I plan to retire soon and move home. The high rate of welfare,Goverment corrpuption and poor school rating is all that makes the news also the trash dump and road now. This is how we are Judged by others. The people we elected to run the Goverment and schools with poor Results.

Trust me, Grimes will not benifit from this "land fill" I've heard first hand Grimes residents will not be able to even use it. If we do gain anything, it will NOT be worth it!!! and I'm sure Brazos is paying a pretty penny for the land but do you think we will see any of it? As of the Kings Oaks "rant", you surely dont care about your county or the people taking the ag away from us and so on, I'm sure these "ta-do" people buying up this overpriced land are really going to work cattle or start a dairy or anything that will benifit any of us, so yes it may be petty but it's true. And the last time I looked into it TMPA pays not school taxes, so yes they pretty much get a free ride.I do understand that Grimes co. "officials" approve these, but again they (the officials)are not by far the best around. People need to wake up and see that if this keeps up we the people of Grimes will be living in the BCS city limits. But so much folks in this county just sit back and do nothing.

Why is it every time educated people and Governments make a investment in Grimes County the Citizens get upset. The king oaks talked about has single homes costing 300,000 dollars and up. You do not make the Money needed for a home like this being on welfare and working hourly paid jobs. The Tax money is needed, look at all the money missing in the county Jail, Court house make over, hospital make over in Navasota and the defective roof that leaks in Anderson. Just because you have not gone to college and graduated high school is not a reason to hate the people living in the first upscale housing area the county has ever had. Some of the Low rated Schools in Grimes county also could use the tax money. Remember we have some of the lowest rated schools in Texas for years. There is nothing wrong with good people working and having good jobs. It is better then being on Hud and welfare. You would be amazed to see how people not on welfare live. The Land fill is Good for Grimes.

Will people please stop talking about the arrested county Government employees and citizens. Just because it take place every years does not make all of us out to be Grimes County Trash. We can not force the people of Navasota and some in the County to get Jobs, stay in School, get off welfare and stop getting arrested. I only voted for 2 of the 5 that got arrested. I also did not give Jobs to the Chief Deputy, Jailers Detectives and Deputy sheriffs arrested in the last 8 years. The serial rapist arrested in CS was from Navasota also the bank robber in Bryan the other person from Hearne not from the County. This Trash dump will bring work into the County. Not everybody is rich and can goto college.

I live in Grimes County. My husband and myself are college graduates and work to support our family. Our children are attending Texas A&M on ACADEMIC scholarships and we gladly sacrifice to help them as well. We have found Grimes County to be a great place to raise our children. Our kids participated in Little League, 4-H and Scouting - all made possible because of the great people here that volunteer countless hours. I am sure there are some less than desirable people in Grimes County;however, you will find such people in every county - even Brazos! Please don't generalize and say that all of Grimes County is trash. I suggest that KBTX only post comments that contribute to an honest and meaningful discussion of the issues. It serves no purpose to post devisive and mean spirited comments which cause even more resentment. Let's stop name calling and see if we can seek to understand the issues. We are neighbors and it would be beneficial to treat each other as such.

So what. For some to hold an elected job like D.A of A County. You have to Vote him into Office. People in Brazos county stopped him not Grimes County. I hope we do not have any rain this year the dirt road of the County will not take It. Theft by elected office holders is why we can not get paved roads also? The state needs to stop giving out ratings for failing schools. People in Navasota thinks its a rewards for lowest rating the state can give a high school. We can not even keep our trailer park manunfacturer open.

PJ and Once on welfare, while your blog borders a tad-bit on snobby, it is better than some I've read on here. To the others: You don't have to be so insulting to argue your point on this landfill. I, personally, don't have a problem with it. I believe I've stated that. The trash has to go somewhere. However, when you ignorant, self-righteous snobs post how you are so much better than people in Grimes County, it makes me think that you should take up residence at the dump yourselves. Such attitudes always come before a fall. If you want to make a good argument about this landfill, keep your isnults to yourselves and make intelligent comments, please. You are acting no better than what you claim the people of Grimes County to be. This is the last you'll hear from me.

And where is this ex-D.A. working now, Anonymous? Last I heard, he was working in Brazos County.

Posted by: former grimes resident Location: texas on Jun 10, 2008 at 07:59 AM
Anonymous at 11:12 How funny that you should mention that particular District Attorney. He is a product of Brazos Co and continues to practice law in Brazos County. I also did not know that the only place in Grimes Co is Navasota. Grimes County's biggest problem has been the influx of outsider "trash" that was created by the developer of "Johnson Ranch" in the Iola area and the place that he created in Navasota. I was born and raised in this area and saw the change and problems that came with this "non-native" invasion. Those of us who have had family there since the begining of time sure did not ask for this "wonderful" (HA) development. Prior to this most worked off the land or the childern went to the city (Houston) for good jobs and then came back to retire. Some stayed to work in the county at the necessary county jobs. We were all happy with the "good old boy" system because we knew them and they knew us and or our family. Not like Brazos Co doesn't/didn't have the same system.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jun 9, 2008 at 11:12 PM
Billy Bob some have commented that you don't have the facts on Grimes County. I am here to tell you that you left out one very important fact. The District Atty of Grimes county was arrested by the state police around the same time the county commissioners were. He allegedly barricaded himself in the courthouse after crashing his car into the feed store. The people of Brazos county MADD became enraged about the alleged corruption and applied massive amount of power to see that justice was brought to the people of Grimes county and the state.

Citizens of Grimes County. You're fellow Texans are helping you out again. This is an employment opportunity. It may be called a trash dump a land fill or a environment storage facility. It will provide a chance for above average income. Substantially higher income than the minimum wage jobs in Navasota. You will not have to be subject to plant closings and layoffs. The city administration has never had any corruption issue like you are used to seeing. Some of the supervision positions do require a college degree. CS is very progressive in providing education and work experience to it's staff. You will be in a retirement system and have sick days pay benefits with medical coverage. I have seen a good number of employees start with CS and go on to college while employed with the city. The increased wages paid will bring in a solid tax base for the school and the county. The end result will be a growing education level for the county. I much improved county Government will take hold.

Posted by: PJ Location: College Station on Jun 9, 2008 at 08:44 PM
Grimes county just does not respect the People of Brazos county. We have invested millions in the County. We have put power plants and jobs in the County. Now we are annexing part of grimes County and making it College Station. These are some important benefits for Grimes. It may be true that some of the people working at TMPA are from Brazos county. The main reason is you have to have a higher level of education to do the work. The land fill will bring some needed jobs to the area. Grimes citizens can also see how tax money can be used to help the people. Unlike The tax Money Grimes used on the New Jail that is missing. It could help motivate the people to vote for new leadership that does not get arrested. Improve a High school that has the Lowest rating the state can give. Other companies and Business will look at the area for future expansion as the area residence gain work experience with a modern progressive government that is not corrupted with decades of theft.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jun 9, 2008 at 03:56 PM
I agree! Grimes County is a good place for trash. It will fit right in with the demeanor of the county law enforcement! I know of a few people in law enforcement positions that should be put to work out there in the dump where they belong. AND NO - I have never been in trouble with the law for anyone thinking that. It is just sickening how "good 'ol boy" tactics can manage to cover up things that go on in Grimes County.

Posted by: Jack Location: White Hall on Jun 9, 2008 at 02:25 PM
Wow. The People of Grimes think the Lone star card is a charge card for food with out a bill. I learned a long time back not to go to a bank in Navasota on the 1st of the month. It is welfare check day. That DHS office is a Welfare office also. It is by the liquor store near all the Junk stores downtown. If this is to stressful you can walk down s.LaSalle to MHMR. We may be a small city but we are fully staffed with welfare offices and Malt Liquor. As far as all the corruption and arrested elected offices and Sheriff dept. employees they need a break from work so they could get Unemployment. If we stop the County corruption and Welfare we would have to drive on Paved roads and work. This County landfill will bring needed jobs to Grimes County if we can find someone to work. I plan to retire soon. I am a Grimes County Republican because I just started to read after 52years as a DEM. and not everybody can be on welfare in this county.

Posted by: Q Location: Hearne on Jun 9, 2008 at 11:47 AM
Sounds like TEA had it wrong on the welfare. It must be a new corruption thing for Richard ISD,Anderson ISD, and Navasota ISD. The are rated economically disadvantage. The just take the welfare Money. It must be welfare theft. Sounds like some criminal charges are in the future again for this County. Brazos county is trying to bring jobs again to Grimes. One day you can have a paved road and a job at the trash dump. This trash dump may be the biggest employer in the county. CS is working on it for you. One day you will not need a lone star card.

Posted by: Ridiculous Location: Grimes on Jun 9, 2008 at 11:36 AM
LG, I really don't understand how you can criticize and insult others while you yourself have inaccurate facts. The landfill serves Grimes county and has served Grimes county for many many years. And did you ever wonder or ask yourself how much money Grimes County is making off of hosting a landfill? I am sure Brazos is paying a pretty penny! And your King Oaks rant is just petty, oh btw TMPA is owned by Bryan, Denton, Garland, & Greenville. And again do you think it is sitting in Grimes County for free? Furthermore no one forced Grimes County to approve either facility, the officials approved with no hesitation. Oh and one more thing all of the information including how many TONS Grimes County has disposed of at the BVSWMA Landfill is public record. So please please do a little bit of research before trying to insult others.

I'm so sorry. I didn't know that in order to live in Grimes County you had to be on welfare. Wow! Sign me up!!! Now my husband and I don't have to work for the things that we have and we will have more time to pursue the things that we don't have. Noone told me that when I was moved here 20 years ago as a small child. Fact is, all you intellects out there, welfare is EVERYWHERE. Even in your fine cities where crime also abounds. Get a grip. I do shop in Brazos County because the stores around here seldom carry what I need or would want to buy. So, my tax dollars are in YOUR county. Notice, I said my TAX DOLLARS, not my food stamps. There are some people that actually do need government assistance for a time. I do agree it is totally abused and the gov. needs to closely inspect all recipients because what is happening is a crime. But it's not just in Grimes County. Get your noses out of the air. One day you might have to eat your own words.

Posted by: LG Location: Anderson on Jun 8, 2008 at 11:40 PM
Mr. "bill bob", I'm sure you are an Aggie so I will make this as simple as I can, but do some homework. Grimes trash has never gone to Brazos. I Don't know were you heard this but it was wrong, it goes to Conroe. If anything Grimes has caught so much BS from Brazos than anyone. Lets take a moment and reflect on the past to the present,TMPA that belongs to Brazos is in Grimes, NO tax basis there for us, the coal mine they felt they needed out of state coal rather than Grimes coal now Brazos wants to make a state park out of it now so all the Aggies can come over and have fun and fill up our jail. Kings Oaks again a waste, overpriced land bought up by Brazos folks that want to live in the country but scared to venture too far. And last but not lease The all mighty "Super Highway" that Brazos wants, but not in there precious county, but in Grimes. We need to just take down the bridges on 30 & 6 and Brazos can just stay out. You must be one of Rick Perry's "uninformed rednecks".

Posted by: Lara Location: Anderson on Jun 8, 2008 at 10:59 PM
I feel the dump is need in Grimes County. It is an opportunity for the citizens of Grimes County to witness first hand people doing a job and getting a pay check for it. Further it should be an economic boom for the county since the trailer home factory shut down several years ago in Navasota. This could be a win win situation for all. Also the citizens of Grimes County can witness a government in action that is not corrupt with employees and administration that are being either arrested or indicted.

Posted by: Jay Location: Brazos County on Jun 8, 2008 at 10:21 PM
Unbelievable you said it.Grimes County is a Great Place to have a trash dump. You can save gas and be at home. Bill Bob Grimes need you. Please help this welfare experiment. It has failed. Look at Navasota and the junk stores.

Posted by: Miller Location: Anderson on Jun 8, 2008 at 09:09 PM
Only in Grimes County would you get mad if someone wanted to stop welfare.

Posted by: Fed Up Location: Bryan on Jun 8, 2008 at 08:38 PM
Lets move the landfill to the Oaks apartments in Bryan. The ghetto rats over there would be right at home.

Posted by: BJ Location: Navasota on Jun 8, 2008 at 06:56 PM
Who will pay the taxes if Bill Bob moves? People will go Hungary if the welfare checks stop coming into Grimes County. PLEASE DO NOT MOVE 60% OF GRIMES COUNTY CITZENS NEEDS THE CHECK. Work like I do Billy Bob. I need help supporting Grimes County. You have a lager jail and can keep the serial rapist and bank robber you have from us. We will take the Trash. We also had some Jailers arrested for sex with Inmates. It is a manpower thing.

Posted by: Unbelievable! Location: Grimes County on Jun 8, 2008 at 06:19 PM
Billy Bob and BB, for such prosperous citizens as yourselves, use some of your hard-earned money to further your education, especially in Grammar. I live in Grimes County and am not, nor have I ever been, on welfare of any kind. Neither is my family or my friends. I haven't spoken out about the dump being placed in Grimes County because the trash needs to go somewhere and we need a place to put it, simple as that. Please put your comments where they belong: at the dump.

Posted by: anon Location: Grimes county on Jun 8, 2008 at 12:27 PM
Bill Bob, you really need to take a chill pill and perhaps vent some of that anger--invest in a bosing bag...Remember we all are texans no matter where we live in this fine state. If our area bothers you so very much, please move to another state.

Posted by: Billy Bob Location: BCS on Jun 8, 2008 at 03:29 AM
Brazos County was been getting a lot of Grimes County trash for years. We have a land fill full of it and a county jail also. It time for Grimes to take some back. It is getting old paying Tax money for a welfare County full of bad cops that keep getting arrested. If you do not like it Grimes county. Stop voting for the people. 2 county commissioners a Sheriff a county auditor and how many Deputies and a Chief Deputy arrested? Just Look at Navasota with the lowest rating High school the state can give. The working people in this state better not stop working. Grimes County need the Money.

Posted by: Bill Bob Location: CS on Jun 7, 2008 at 12:23 PM
Remember we all can drive on mud and sand roads like Grimes county. We need to Prosper first. PS. It helps to have a few Police officers arrested and County commissioners for theft. A low income is a must. Live Long and Prosper.

for crying out loud--before you write your comments, do some research, get a dictionary and don't judge anyone until you have walked in their shoes. Grimes Cty is a wonderful place to live & raise children. You people are just jealous of ones that prosper!!!! You should be ashamed!

Posted by: Robin TRANT Johnson Location: Keith Texas on Jun 7, 2008 at 02:26 AM
First of all, as a TRANT-let me enlighten you with some facts. Harold didn't get 10 million and College Station doesn't just "give" money out for land. They did much research on this project years before any of you knew about it. When land has been in a family for 100 years, there are bound to be tracts w/out clear title. Who knows what was traded for the tracts back in the early 1900's when deeds were by word of mouth. I do know that my father and grandfather have been paying taxes on these tracts for decades. Nonetheless, my daddy was a God fearing man and believed that God rewarded his servants when they lived a life walking with God every step of the way. My Daddy was one who was rewarded on earth. I'm sorry that some of you feel the way that you do, but if you were offered the same deal he was, I'd be willing to bet that you would take it to. You're lying to yourself if you say that you wouldn't. We're not crazy about a landfill on our land, but think of a life without them........

Posted by: Dan Location: Bryan/ Brazos county on Jun 6, 2008 at 04:38 PM
GC resident: CS originally planned to use land off of Peach Creek Rd. But those residents actually get to vote for Brazos Co. officials, so we could not have that. Blame Trant, B/CS and Brazos Co along with your state gvt for your problem. ETJ is unconstitutional, but is used and abused all the time. Get mad and get even Grimes County!!!!

Posted by: County Resident Location: Brazos County on Jun 6, 2008 at 04:11 PM
Grimes County, including the City of Huntsville, has been sending its garbage to the BVSWMA regional landfill for many, many years. For that matter, waste from well over a dozen surrounding counties goes to the BVSWMA landfill. Try again.

Posted by: Cerena Location: College Station on Jun 6, 2008 at 02:12 PM
Debbie don't be so quick to blame College Station for what the Trents did. AS with any home or land purchase it is the title companies responsibility to assure that all land is free of any judgements , liens and all taxes are paid to date. We found out just how unreliable they can be when we had a lien placed on our home just 3 months after closing due to the title company not doing their job it took months and an attorney to clear this off and a suit against the builder for our attorney fees. And to all the grimes county residents that are complaining about the landfill I don't recall an complaints about Grimes dumping your trash in our landfill now it's your turn to host the landfill

Posted by: Debbie Location: Keith, Texas on Jun 6, 2008 at 12:31 PM
Looks like the Trant family knew just what they were doing... Harold Trant sold that land knowing that the land wasn't with a clear title. College Station didnt look into it and just gave him 10 million dollars!!

Grimes County has some of it Criminal trash in Brazos County. It look like a even trade.

This landfill is nowhere near Navasota! Just because you have a very low opinion of people from Navasota does not mean that the whole county is the same. How would you like it if you had to live next to a landfill every day of your life..especially if it wasn’t even your own county’s trash!

Why can't BCS use land in Brazos county instead of Grimes???????
