Veterans Day ceremonies were held throughout the Brazos Valley Friday.

The American Legion Post 159 in Bryan held a program remembering those who served and are currently serving in the Armed forces. The program recognized POW's and those missing in action.

Major Chris Emmerson from Texas A&M addressed the crowd. There was also a gun salute and the sound of taps.

"It's because of our veterans all the way back to the Revolutionary War that we have our freedoms today and we need to hold that dear," said Charles Opersteny with American Legion Post 159.

Over at Texas A&M, the Corp of Cadets hosted a wreath laying ceremony at the West Gate Memorial. An Aggie Band bugler played taps as members of the Ross Volunteers stood guard.

Several university officials including Corps Commandant Lt. General John Van Alstyne, and President Robert Gates, took part in the ceremony.

Even though schools were in session today, a lot of students took time to honor the men and women who've served our county. The choir, band and orchestra took part in a patriotic program at College Station Middle School.

American Legion Post 159 presented the colors. Guest Speaker Dwight Toney, a former war captain and helicopter pilot says he was honored to speak with students.

"It means a great deal to all the veterans to be able to honor them and to just be able to show the support for them today," said Toney.

After the music, there was a reception for all veterans, service people, and their families.
